Monster Mash! is an exercise in character design that re-imagines classic Universal monsters as the protagonists in a modern 2D fighting game. While they are based on established characters, their appearance and personalities have been altered to better suit the game's narrative and style.
I really love old school horror and early Hollywood monsters so I was really passionate about this project! I hope I get the chance to further develop these characters and include things like their special attacks and "home" stages. For now though, here are the basics character sheets.
My Monster Planner
This is a yearly planner centered around monster girls.
Each month has an assigned girl as it's mascot as well as a set color scheme. This project was both an exercise in character design but also in book formatting/printing.
I would like to refine this planner a bit more and (hopefully) run a Kickstarter to mass produce it.
Palomita is the story about a young girl on her journey through purgatory to find her lost family.
This project mostly focused on the visual design of the story and the sort of style I wanted to utilized. The story is constantly updating and changing but here are the very bare bones of the concept.
Like every other art student, I love Egyptology and the myriad of Gods and Goddesses featured in various folklore.
For this set of stickers, I wanted to depict a small set of Gods/Goddesses in a very graphic style. For this "first wave" I have included Bastet, Anubis, Horus, and Sobek.
Sadie is Dead
Sadie is Dead is about a zombie girl attending an all-monster school who not only has to deal with the horrors of high school but possibly the end of the world.
This is an on-again/off-again project that I have been working on for the past 6+ years. It ran briefly as a webcomic before being put on hiatus due to work. This story is very dear to me and I hope I get the chance to bring it to fruition.
In 2018 I launched a Kickstarter for a set of enamel pins called "Familiar Feelings."
The set featured 8 unique designs that all centered around a different animal. I wanted to include themes involving the occult since it's something I'm highly interested in and wanted to pursue my own take on the various amount of animal skull pins I have seen around.
In the end, the project blew past the initial goal of $600 and raised well over $10,000.
Some Talented Teachers
A small set of anthropomorphic magic professors.
These three are based on actual teachers who had wanted a portrait/animal of their own after seeing them posted on Facebook.
La Familia Yañez
For Christmas of 2017 I decided to draw my entire immediate family as calaveras AKA sugar skulls.
The response was far greater than I had hoped! It was featured in a Twitter moment where it garnered loads of favs/retweets and lead to other families commissioning me for similar portraits.
Convention Mascot Design
I was commissioned by Equestria LA to help design a mascot for their convention.
Eventually she was made into a plush that was sold both at the convention and online. Along with character design work I also aided in general art assets and conbook management.
